From Hustle to Growth: La Mochila City LLC’s Journey with ICON CDC
When Tania, owner of La Mochila City LLC, first launched her sidewalk vending business in Council District 6, her mission was clear: to connect diverse cultures through food and bring a sense of home to the immigrant community. Her business offers Sinaloa-style hot dogs, French fries, sodas, and her signature packaged chipotle salsa—bringing the authentic flavors of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico, to the streets of Los Angeles.
However, Tania faced a major roadblock. The trailer she initially purchased was not approved by the LA County Health Department, preventing her from operating legally and limiting her ability to grow. Despite having a loyal customer base and strong demand, she now needed to secure the proper licenses, permits, and an LA County-approved food trailer to continue building her business.
ICON CDC’s Sidewalk Vending Program assisted Tania with navigating the licensing and permitting process. Once she had those in place, she was connected to ICON CDC’s Microloan Program, where she was approved for a business loan that allowed her to purchase a new, compliant trailer—customized to meet her business needs.
With the new trailer, Tania will be able to expand her menu to include breakfast items, serve more customers, and participate in large community events—giving La Mochila City the visibility and flexibility it needs to thrive.
At ICON CDC, we’re proud to stand behind hardworking entrepreneurs like Tania, who are creating vibrant, community-rooted businesses with passion and purpose in Council District 6.
