Gorditas Durango Moves One Step Closer to Bringing Their Vision to Life

Demetrio Gutierrez stands beside his newly approved and permitted tamale cart provided through ICON CDC's Sidewalk Vending Program.

Demetrio Gutierrez is the proud owner of Gorditas Durango, a beloved restaurant in Panorama City that has been serving authentic Mexican food to the community since 2013. Driven by his desire to provide for his family and create opportunities for others, Demetrio started his business with a simple but powerful mission: to uplift his loved ones and give back to the community that has supported him. Family is at the heart of everything Demetrio does.

They are his greatest motivation, giving him the strength, courage, and inspiration to continue moving forward. His dream is not only to grow his business, but also to become a better person and make a meaningful difference in his community. This year, Demetrio took an exciting step toward expansion by pursuing an approved tamale cart to complement his restaurant. With guidance and support from ICON CDC, Demetrio was able to learn and obtain the necessary permits for operating a Compact Mobile Food Operation (CMFO) in Los Angeles.

He has been able to navigate the process of the Public Health Department and continue building toward his long-term goals. ICON CDC has played a significant role in his journey, offering the resources and encouragement he needed to push this new project forward. Looking ahead, Demetrio hopes to keep growing Gorditas Durango, hire more employees, and create additional opportunities for local residents. His vision is to build a thriving business that not only sustains his family but also strengthens the community he deeply cares about.
