Orion Auto Sales Awarded $15,000 in Small Business Grants

Orion Auto Sales is a family-owned used car dealership operated by Lucas Cruz and recognized as one of the oldest dealerships in the San Fernando Valley, serving the community since 1992. Located in Pacoima, Orion Auto Sales focuses on providing reliable and affordable vehicles to residents who may not have the financial ability to purchase a new vehicle. The dealership supports low-income individuals and families by helping them access dependable transportation needed for employment, education, and daily responsibilities.

In recognition of its longstanding commitment to the community, Orion Auto Sales was officially designated as a Legacy Business on June 24, 2025. As the business continued to navigate economic challenges affecting vehicle sales and consumer spending, Lucas connected with ICON CDC’s North Valley Business Source Center (BSC) for technical assistance and access to critical resources.

On September 4, 2025, Orion Auto Sales faced an ADA compliance lawsuit related to accessibility concerns at the dealership. ICON CDC assisted the client by providing guidance on ADA requirements and recommending improvements, including the installation of an accessibility ramp leading into the office. The client also obtained legal representation and successfully resolved the matter, ensuring the dealership became ADA compliant.

ICON CDC continued supporting Orion Auto Sales by assisting Lucas with applying for available funding opportunities. In October 2025, the client applied for the Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) Small Business Resiliency Grant and was approved, receiving $5,000 in funding in April 2026. The grant provided important support during a difficult period for the dealership.

Additionally, ICON CDC assisted Lucas with the City of Los Angeles Microenterprise Grant Round 3 application. The client was approved and recognized during a grant presentation with Council District 7 and the Economic and Workforce Development Department at Pacoima City Hall on April 13, 2026. On June 23, 2026, Orion Auto Sales was awarded $10,000 in grant funding.

The awarded funds have helped the business purchase marketing materials, banners, and promotional resources to increase visibility while also supporting ADA compliance efforts. Lucas shared that he previously believed grant opportunities were out of reach after never receiving funding before. Through continued encouragement and application support from ICON CDC, he successfully accessed multiple resources to strengthen his business.

Today, Orion Auto Sales continues serving Pacoima residents by providing affordable transportation options and demonstrating the impact that technical assistance, compliance support, and access to capital can have on the sustainability of small businesses.
