Vivre Beauty Salon Grows From a Home-Based Business to a Storefront
Vanessa was referred to the ICON CDC South Valley BusinessSource Center in April 2026 by a current ICON client. For the previous two years, Vanessa had been providing facials and makeup services from her mother’s home. Ready to take the next step, she came to ICON CDC South Valley seeking guidance on how to properly formalize her business and become compliant.
Vanessa had a clear vision for growth, including securing a storefront, expanding her services, and eventually transitioning her business entity. ICON provided hands-on assistance with several key steps, including filing her DBA, obtaining her EIN, and providing guidance on her Business Tax Registration Certificate and Seller’s Permit requirements. ICON also provided commercial space leads to help her identify a location that would meet her business needs.
As Vanessa continued developing her business, ICON remained a resource throughout her transition. She established her business as an S Corporation, developed her website, and began preparing for online sales. ICON provided guidance and resources to support her continued business development and invited her to participate in workshops focused on growing her business.
By August, Vanessa was ready to open her new location. ICON worked with her to prepare a grand opening itinerary and provided on-site assistance during her August 22 grand opening at 7147 Lindley Avenue in Reseda. More than 60 people attended the celebration, where Vanessa showcased her beauty services, connected with potential customers, and began recruiting for her growing business.
Vanessa’s growth continued beyond her grand opening. On September 9, 2026, she informed ICON that she had successfully hired her first nail technician. She is continuing to recruit a receptionist/salesperson and additional hairstylists as she expands her team.
Vanessa’s journey demonstrates what can happen when an entrepreneur has the right guidance and resources at each stage of business development. She progressed from operating out of her mother’s home to establishing a formal business, opening her own storefront, celebrating her grand opening, and creating her first job.
