Yasmin Torres – Building a Dream with BSC Support

Yasmin Torres always dreamed of opening a home-based daycare to support families in her community. After completing the EMI entrepreneurship training in late 2024, she was ready to take the next step, but she didn’t know where to start.

Yasmin met with Senior Business Advisor Hector Martinez at the BusinessSource Center (BSC). Hector helped her understand her options and guided her through the process of starting her business. With his support, Yasmin chose to form an S Corporation for her daycare, Lavender Child Care, Inc., which opened in North Hills, California

Hector didn’t stop there. He also helped Yasmin get her Business Tax Registration Certificate (BTRC) with the City of Los Angeles and supported her every step of the way to make sure her business was legally set up and ready to grow.

Soon, Yasmin’s story was featured in a promotional video by EMI. After the video was released, she received many calls from parents interested in her daycare services.

As her business expanded, Yasmin turned to Hector again for help with hiring her first employee. He gave her advice on payroll, HR, and compliance and even began helping her create a custom employee handbook for her business.

Now, Yasmin is preparing to grow her team and is working with Hector to get certified as a women-owned and minority-owned business, which will open new doors for her daycare.
